Marjan Hashemi

Marjan Hashemi was born and raised in Iran where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in English literature and master’s degree in psychology. She then went on to study acting and directing for theatre at Karnameh Art institute in 2016.  She played some roles in short movies and TV series as an actress such as Shamdooni and Not yet but then found her true passion in film making. She received her first award at Hilaj theater festival for best directing of The Maids.

Marjan made her first short film, Chromatic, in 2017. It was nominated for best short film at the World of Women festival in Dubai. She made her second film The Drip in 2018. It had screenings in Iran and in June 2019 screened at Kerala Film festival.

Origami is her third short film. She wrote, produced and directed it and the fund was raised on a crowdfunding website called Hamijoo.

Marjan Hashemi is also a performance artist. Butterfly effect, her latest performance, received outstanding feedback in Iran.
